LivingRoom Nest
A bidding, partnership trick-taking game with a fifty-seven card deck in four colours — and the Bird, the highest trump, which can go down whenever you like. Bid in fives, win the nest, name the colour that will be trump, and take back what you promised.
What it's like
A deck of four colours
One to fourteen in red, green, black and yellow, plus the Bird. The colour is the suit, and trump is a colour — so a card is read by its band before its number.
Bid in fives
From seventy up to the hundred and forty a hand is worth. A pass is final, and when three have passed the last one in takes it. Play stick the dealer and the dealer can't get out of it.
The nest
Win the bidding and you take five face-down cards into your hand, name trump, and put any five back down. Those five still count for your side, so bury points rather than give them away.
Every counter shown
Each 5, 10 and 14 carries a badge saying what it is worth, and so does the Bird. The whole game is counting them, and counting from memory is the part people get wrong.
