LivingRoom Then & Now

What's new

Every build of Then & Now so far, newest first: 24 of them. TestFlight shows only the newest few, so the whole story is kept here.

Build 25

  • The coloured bands on the players' small cards fill their rounded corners, with no white tips.

Build 24

  • The small cards in the players' panels show their year and category in the part left showing, instead of slivers of them.
  • The front card's coloured band reaches its rounded corners, without white tips.
  • Winning shows the game over card once the last card has landed, without a bubble first.

Build 23

  • The middle of the table keeps its size: the line saying how each event went no longer makes it grow and shrink.

Build 22

  • Tap a player to see their timeline as a list, earliest first: each year, its category and what happened, one under the other down a line.
  • How each event went shows on a quiet line under the cards ("1930 · Nell got it") instead of a big bubble over the players. The bubble is kept for the event that wins the game.

Build 21

  • Your timeline is fanned like a hand of cards: every card printed the same, partly under the next. Tap a card to lift it and read it; while you're placing an event, press and hold instead.
  • The coloured bands across the tops of the cards run into each other, without white notches between them.
  • Placing an event between two cards is more reliable: a tap goes before a card on the left half of what shows of it, after it on the right half, and a second tap now lands where you tap.

Build 20

  • At the end of a game, the final score card now waits for the last card's banner to finish instead of flashing up, disappearing under it, then coming back.

Build 19

  • Unfinished online games are checked with iCloud less often as they age, all at once rather than one by one, and not at all after a month unplayed. A game someone left or finished elsewhere still clears from your list, sooner for recent games.
  • For testers: Settings › Beta also counts the game's iCloud requests and any slow-down iCloud asked for.

Build 18

  • Switch to another app mid-game and the game is saved exactly as it stands, so if iOS closes it while you're away, Continue picks up where you were, not at the start of the hand.
  • An online game stays connected for about half a minute after you switch away, long enough to answer a message.
  • For testers: Settings › Beta shows how your saved games are syncing with iCloud, and Send Feedback includes it. If deleted games come back, send feedback from that game.

Build 16

  • The round buttons over the table are clear glass again, as before the last build.

Build 15

  • The buttons over the table stand out from the felt: dark circles with light symbols.
  • The rules button is a question mark, and the close button is a quieter outline set a little apart, so it isn't hit by mistake.
  • The title at the top of the table (whose turn it is) is centred on the screen, not pushed to one side by the buttons.

Build 14

  • The rules are a tap away at the table: the book button beside the close button.
  • The screen stays on while you're at the table, so it no longer dims and locks while you wait on someone else's turn.
  • If your saved games ever can't be opened, the app still starts and plays rather than closing straight away.

Build 13

  • With no name typed for practice, you play under your Game Center name, so your avatar shows your initial, not a Y.
  • Your Game Center picture or Memoji shows on your seat in practice games too, not just online.

Build 12

  • You're in the players' row (or column) with everyone else, in the order of play, lit up gold on your turn, so you can see who goes before and after you.
  • Players show their Game Center picture or Memoji where they have one, you included; anyone without one keeps their initial.

Build 11

  • On an iPad, the other players' latest events show whole, words and all, not just their years.
  • On an iPad held sideways, a big table no longer runs off the top and bottom: past four others, they sit in two columns.
  • The event going round is big enough to read in landscape.

Build 10

  • Turning an iPad no longer deals the cards on the table all over again.
  • Cards flying across the table land in the right place after you turn an iPad.
  • The banner for a big moment (a hand or round over, and the like) is solid instead of see-through, with bigger, brighter text under it.

Build 9

  • Deleting your last saved game: "No games yet" fades in once the list has gone, instead of on top of it.

Build 8

  • The other players' cards are bigger the fewer of them there are: with one or two others, their panels no longer sit mostly empty. With one or two, each event's words show.
  • No gold ring where a card lands: on a pile that cleared as the card landed, it outlined empty places.

Build 7

  • Another player's timeline opens on the same dark sheet as every other.
  • Card motion in Settings: Fingertip is gone, now that its fingertip dot is. Lift and place is the new default, and anyone who had Fingertip gets it.
  • An event tapped into your timeline can be taken back: tap its empty place in the middle, or drag it back out. Drag it to another place to move it.
  • The year stays up longer once someone places an event, long enough to read.
  • Another player's timeline always opens at half height.
  • Join with Code is a shorter sheet: the table is looked for as soon as all six digits are in (no Join button), and Paste and Scan QR Code sit side by side under the code.
  • Cards other players play no longer carry a grey dot as they fly.

Build 6

  • A tapped event sits whole between the two cards it would go between, so neither is hidden. Tap it to place it.

Build 5

  • A tap on your timeline shows the event in the place you picked, with where it is in words ("Between 1665 and 1947"). Tap it again to place it, or tap somewhere else to move it.
  • Your timeline and the event going round are bigger, and the other players' timelines are sized the way LivingRoom Hearts sizes its hands.

Build 4

  • Your timeline fans out like a hand of cards. Drag the event over it and a gap opens where it would go.
  • Covered cards show their year, so the whole timeline reads at a glance.

Build 3

  • Drag the event into your timeline, as well as tapping a gap.

Build 2

  • The game's own icon, table felt and card backs.

Build 1

  • The first build of LivingRoom Then & Now. Put events from history, science, inventions, pop culture and sport in the order they happened.
  • First to 10, 15 or 20 events wins. The deck has 50 events for now, with many more to come.
